Bringing Warmth to Ukrainian Communities: Mobile Boilers from Coca-Cola

Challenge

More than three years of full-scale war have led to massive destruction of infrastructure and serious challenges to people’s daily lives. The situation in the energy sector is particularly critical: according to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, by 2024, 73% of Ukraine’s thermal power units had been rendered inoperative as a result of missile attacks. Strikes on energy infrastructure continue, causing new damage and disrupting heating systems. This poses a serious threat to the heating season, especially for social facilities such as hospitals, schools, and kindergartens, where people risk being left without warmth during the cold season.

Solution

To help protect people from this threat, in 2023 Coca-Cola, in partnership with the Ukrainian Red Cross, launched a large-scale project to provide communities with mobile boilers. With an investment of over USD 9 million over three years, Coca-Cola is supplying mobile boilers to heat schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and residential buildings – focusing particularly on those that were under occupation or located near the front line.

In 2023–2024, 105 mobile boilers have already been delivered, and another 5 are currently being transferred in 2025. The equipment operates on natural gas but can quickly switch to diesel fuel in case of supply disruptions. Its main advantage is mobility, allowing quick response to changing circumstances and installation wherever warmth is needed most.

Beyond its humanitarian purpose, the project also has an economic dimension: the mobile boilers are manufactured in Ukraine, supporting local businesses and preserving jobs.

Results

The total capacity of the 110 mobile boilers exceeds 61 MW, enabling the heating of up to 610,000 square meters of buildings. This means 115 social facilities across Ukraine remain warm and safe for people – bringing comfort, stability, and hope even in the most difficult times.

The Mobile Boilers Project is a story of how a global company becomes part of local community life and supports people in their most critical moments. Coca-Cola continues to provide significant support to Ukraine, helping communities stay resilient.

Since February 24, 2022, the Coca-Cola System, together with The Coca-Cola Foundation, has provided over USD 40 million in humanitarian aid and infrastructure recovery for Ukrainians.
