Kormotech
Care as the Foundation of Community Resilience
Problem Description
The full-scale war in Ukraine has had a significant impact on the communities of the Lviv region – home to Kormotech’s headquarters and its Ukrainian production facilities. Lviv became a key evacuation point for people from frontline regions, where thousands of families arrived after losing their homes and loved ones, forced to adapt to a new reality.
This created a major mental health crisis, especially among children, for whom the war became a source of trauma and stress. At the same time, the problem of abandoned and injured animals worsened. Lviv received hundreds of animals from frontline regions, while local shelters and volunteer organizations faced shortages of food, resources, and manpower.
For Kormotech, these challenges were not only socially important but also deeply aligned with the company’s values: developing the communities where it operates and fostering a culture of humane treatment of animals as part of sustainable development.
Solution
In 2024, Kormotech launched a strategic partnership with the Voices of Children Foundation, which provides psychological support to children and families affected by the war.
The company took on systemic support of the foundation’s Lviv center – funding programs, developing the team of psychologists, and implementing new formats of work such as long-term therapy sessions, creative workshops, film clubs, and conversational clubs.
Thanks to this support, the center has become a stable and safe space for recovery for children who have experienced traumatic events and their families.
“Kormotech is a leader guided by the values of its founders. True leadership means taking greater responsibility – for shaping the future and for the communities where we live and work. We look for partners who share these values and professionalism, walking the same path with us. Voices of Children has become such a partner. Together, we found a common point where our collaboration brings the greatest benefit to those we help – children and animals. The way we raise children and care for animals are markers of a society’s maturity. Together with the foundation’s team, we are working to change human behavior and foster a culture of care – to make the world better for future generations”, – Alina Smyshliak-Boroda, Director of Reputation Management and CSR, Kormotech
“Kormotech, as a Ukrainian socially responsible business, supports one of our largest centers – in Lviv. This is a place where children receive professional help to process their wartime experiences. We deeply value that Ukrainian business understands the importance of supporting children in times of war”,
– Olena Rozvadovska, Co-founder of the Voices of Children Foundation
At the same time, Kormotech continued its systemic support of two Lviv-based organizations – the LKP Lev municipal veterinary and sterilization center and the Home of Rescued Animals shelter.
The company provides both organizations with monthly supplies of pet food under its own brands and resource support that enables the continuation of sterilization, treatment, and adoption programs.
“It’s important for us to support those who take daily responsibility for the lives and well-being of stray animals. This partnership is not one-time assistance but a systemic collaboration that helps change the culture of animal welfare in Ukraine”,
– Iryna Lozova, Head of Social Projects, Kormotech
Results
The collaboration with the Voices of Children Foundation and the support of Lviv’s shelters became a clear example of how business can strengthen community resilience by integrating assistance to both people and animals.
Psychological Support
- More than 400 group sessions and 980 individual consultations were conducted.
- Over 3,000 children and parents received psychological assistance.
- The demand for individual therapy tripled, reflecting strong trust in the program.
Social Impact
The center has become a safe space for development and recovery – where children are learning to trust, communicate, and create again. It has integrated into Lviv’s local support network as one of the key community recovery hubs.
Animal Welfare Support
- Over 10 tons of pet food were provided to the two partner shelters in Lviv.
- This ensured food security for hundreds of rescued animals and allowed the continuation of sterilization, treatment, and adoption programs.
Cultural and Environmental Impact
Supporting shelters fosters a culture of compassion and responsibility toward nature, strengthening the community’s environmental awareness.
The project united two vital directions – helping children and helping animals – under one shared idea: care as the foundation of a strong and resilient community.
It stands as a vivid example of how business can become a driver of social stability, simultaneously supporting citizens’ psychological well-being and shaping a new culture of responsibility and humanity within communities.
