Support and Employment of Veterans and Their Families
OBRIO and Genesis for Ukraine
The Future of Prosthetics in Ukraine
The Future of Prosthetics in Ukraine is a comprehensive initiative aimed at reintegrating veterans into life after service, developing innovative education and scientific infrastructure in Ukraine, and creating a modern prosthetics system and inclusive infrastructure.
The project was created at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute with financial support from IT companies OBRIO and appflame, in partnership with the Genesis for Ukraine fund.
Key challenges of the project:
- lack of modern technologies in the field of prosthetics;
- outdated approaches to production and development;
- lack of inclusive infrastructure for training veterans;
- lack of an updated educational base in the field of engineering;
- insufficient readiness of Ukrainian higher education institutions to implement modern technological programs;
- lack of technical equipment and resources for quality practical education and scientific research.
Solution:
Creation of an innovative inclusive environment at KPI, combining education, science, and technology, to develop new competitive systems and high-tech solutions in the field of prosthetics.
Two directions of the project:
Innovative space – an inclusive technology hub in the field of engineering, additive technologies, and support for veterans at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. A real example of transforming university spaces into centers of applied science and innovation.
The Veteran Master’s Program is a 1.5-year course at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, which started in September 2025, specializing in Biomedical Engineering and Applied Mechanics. Thanks to their education in engineering, participants will gain modern knowledge with a focus on the latest technologies.
OBRIO’s role in the project:
OBRIO became a key partner in the initiative. Thanks to the company’s funding, the following was achieved:
- an inclusive Innovation Space was set up;
- 3D printers, consumables, and modern licensed Materialise software were purchased;
- comfortable conditions were created for research and training for veterans and students studying at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
The role of Genesis for Ukraine:
Genesis for Ukraine is a charitable foundation of the Genesis ecosystem that coordinates all areas of the initiative, bringing together business partners, government institutions, and public organizations around a common goal: to support defenders and develop innovative veteran projects.
Results as of October 2025:
- The innovation space has been operating for over six months, bringing together students, teachers, and veterans for joint research and learning.
- In September 2025, the first cohort of the Veteran Master’s program began their studies, with student veterans learning in a modern, inclusive Innovation Space.
- Thanks to OBRIO’s support, the foundation has been laid for further scientific developments in the field of 3D printing, biomechanics, and modern prosthetics.
- 3D printers are used to manufacture prototypes of orthoses and splints for specific individuals, start-ups, and student research projects.
- In three months of operation, approximately 20 prototypes of upper and lower limb orthoses, 5 splints, and various occupational therapy devices have been printed.
- As part of the activities of the Innovation Park, KPI cooperates with leading prosthetics centers: Superhumans, UkrProtez, Esper Bionics, Parashar Industries, and the Special Clinical Sanatorium Peremoha.
IMPACT
The Future of Prosthetics in Ukraine is shaping a new model of interaction between business, education, and the state. The initiative gives veterans the opportunity to obtain an engineering profession, creates a foundation for the development of the Ukrainian prosthetics system, and stimulates an innovative environment in universities. The project helps in the reintegration of defenders after demobilization.
